Discover the Austrian Alps on foot

From easy walks for little legs to alpine adventures to the region's highest peaks, the region around Lech Am Arlberg is a magnet for hikers of all ages and ambitions. All in all there are 350 kilometres of signposted walking and hiking trails in the Lech-Zürs. The landscapes waiting to be discovered are as beautiful and diverse as the Alps themselves: from rushing rivers and crystal-clear lakes to fascinating craters and blooming meadows, from thick forests and steep rockfaces to deep canyons and flat valley floors. There really is something for everyone. Come and find out for yourself! We look forward to sharing with you this beautiful region we are fortunate enough to call home.

Walking and hiking in Lech

From easy to extreme

Families with children will enjoy the Grüner Ring adventure trail with its many mythical creatures, while experienced hikers can take on the mighty Rote Wand mountain. In between the easy and the extreme there are plenty of intermediate options such as circular walks leading up to some of the best huts in the region serving hearty local food. A number of walking and hiking trails start right outside our front door.

Tip from your hosts
Gipslöcher Nature Reserve
The Gipslöcher Nature Reserve comprises over 1,000 sinkholes up to 100 metres wide and 35 metres deep. They are lined by a huge variety of orchids. This nature reserve can be easily accessed from our hotel. Leaving from the Rüfiplatz in the centre of Lech, follow the river downstream to the bottom of the Oberlech cable cars. Via two cable cars, first the Bergbahn Oberlech and then the Petersbodenbahn, you will be transported high into the mountains. It is then just a short walk from the top of the cable car to the Gipslöcher Nature Reserve. The trail leads via Grubenalpe back to Oberlech, where you can either take the cable car back down into the valley or walk down through the Burgwald forest or an area known as the Rudtobel to Lech.

The Lechweg - the journey begins at the Hotel Schranz

From the source to the fall

The Lechweg is a unique long-distance hiking trail through one of the last wild river landscapes in Europe. Always accompanied by the soothing murmur of the Lechbach, you hike from the source near the Formarinsee in Lech am Arlberg in Vorarlberg to the Lechfall in Füssen in the Allgäu. On the way along the magical turquoise river there is a flora and fauna to be discovered that is unique with one of the largest ibex colonies in Europe, numerous breeding bird species and wild, rare orchid species.

We at the Hotel Schranz, a certified partner hotel of the Lechweg, are specially geared to the needs of Lechweg hikers and are happy to provide you with advice and assistance. The Hotel Schranz in Lech am Arlberg is the ideal starting point for the first two stages of the Lechweg. In combination with a Lech loop or a jump into the crystal-clear water of the Lech while canyoning, you can start your journey in an atmospheric way, with pleasant comfort and our warm hospitality.
